Stream this album on Rock Proper RadioIn January of 2004, NASA gave two robots a one-way ticket to Mars. Since then, they have been spending their time snapping photos of the landscape, moving some stones around and preparing the way for carbon based tourists. The mission was scheduled to be brief, a few months at most, but hey have now been up there for many years longer than expected.
Someday, something will go wrong with these automatons. A wire may catch on a Martian boulder, their solar cells will stop producing the juice they need to make their rounds. Earlier this month one of their shoulder motors started stalling with dire frequently.
For now, I am very comforted by knowing they are up there, blinking, beeping, whirring and streaming their holiday slideshows back to a home they will never see again.
